At the star-studded Back to the Beginning concert honoring Black Sabbath’s legendary career, Pantera’s fierce performance was already enough to send the crowd into a frenzy — but actor and event host Jason Momoa added an extra spark. During Pantera’s set, Momoa jumped off the stage and sparked a circle pit in the audience, ramping up the energy to another level.
Momoa’s Unexpected Mosh Pit Moment
As Pantera launched into a blistering medley of “Cowboys From Hell” and “Walk,” classic-era vocalist Philip Anselmo and bassist Rex Brown were joined by guitarist Zakk Wylde and drummer Charlie Benante, delivering a powerhouse performance. Early in “Cowboys From Hell,” Momoa stepped off the stage, climbed over the barricade, and dove into the front rows of the crowd. There, he helped kickstart a circle pit, fueling the already electrified fans.
Video footage capturing Momoa’s enthusiastic leap into the crowd quickly circulated online, showcasing the actor’s passion for live music and metal culture.
Pantera’s Setlist and Tribute
Anselmo dedicated their performance to the late Abbott brothers, Dimebag Darrell and Vinnie Paul, former Pantera guitarist and drummer who left an indelible mark on heavy metal. Following their iconic originals, Pantera covered two Black Sabbath classics: “Planet Caravan,” originally featured on their 1994 album Far Beyond Driven, and “Electric Funeral,” recorded for the 2000 tribute album Nativity in Black.
A Legendary Lineup in Black Sabbath’s Hometown
Back to the Beginning took place at Villa Park in Birmingham, England — the birthplace of Black Sabbath. The concert assembled a veritable who’s who of rock and metal royalty, with performances by Metallica, Guns N’ Roses, Slayer, Gojira, and Alice in Chains. Supergroups featuring various rock legends also took the stage to honor Sabbath’s influence by playing their classic songs.
The evening culminated with what is believed to be Ozzy Osbourne’s final live performance, featuring a reunion of the original Black Sabbath lineup: Osbourne, guitarist Tony Iommi, bassist Geezer Butler, and drummer Bill Ward. Notably, this marked Ward’s first appearance with the band since 2005, adding a historic touch to the event.
Jason Momoa’s unexpected dive into the mosh pit perfectly captured the spirit of the Back to the Beginning concert — a celebration of legendary music, intense energy, and the unifying power of metal. It was a moment that delighted fans and underscored the lasting cultural impact of Black Sabbath and their peers.
