Tom Holland is gearing up to bring a fresh yet nostalgic vibe to the Spider-Man franchise with the upcoming Spider-Man: Brand New Day, promising a return to “old school filmmaking” that contrasts sharply with the COVID-restricted production of No Way Home.

Speaking at his first-ever Bero Padel Classic tournament, Holland revealed to IGN that the new film, directed by Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings’ Destin Daniel Cretton, will embrace a more traditional, location-based approach. “We shot the entire [No Way Home] film on stages,” Holland said. “Now we’re really gonna lean into that old school filmmaking and shoot in real locations, which is why we’re starting in Glasgow. We are gonna use the streets of Glasgow for this massive set piece that we are putting together.”

This shift marks a departure from Holland’s previous three Spider-Man films, all directed by Jon Watts, and aims to recapture the energetic feel of Homecoming. “It’s gonna feel like making [Homecoming] again,” Holland shared enthusiastically. “It’s been such a long time that I’ve done it that it’s gonna feel like a breath of fresh air. I think the fans are going to be over the moon with what we’re putting together.”

Earlier this year at CinemaCon, Holland described Brand New Day as a “fresh start” following the dramatic cliffhanger at the end of No Way Home, where Peter Parker sacrificed his identity to protect his loved ones. While plot details remain under wraps, Holland teased that the new chapter will explore this fresh beginning without giving away spoilers.

Fans can also look forward to the return of familiar faces Zendaya as MJ and Jacob Batalon as Ned, alongside exciting new additions like Jon Bernthal reprising his role as the Punisher and Sadie Sink making her Marvel debut in an undisclosed role.

With Spider-Man: Brand New Day set to swing into theaters on July 31, 2026, under the banner of Disney and Marvel Studios, Holland’s promise of a grounded, location-rich production is already raising anticipation for a Spider-Man experience that combines the best of classic filmmaking with modern superhero spectacle.

Given the previous box office successes—Homecoming grossing $880 million, Far From Home earning $1.13 billion, and No Way Home making an astonishing $1.9 billion worldwide—expectations are high for this next leap in the beloved franchise.
