As David Corenswet prepares to don the iconic cape as the new Superman in James Gunn’s upcoming film, he’s already receiving support from the actors who previously embodied the legendary hero. In a recent interview with Beat 102 103, Corenswet revealed that after landing the role, he exchanged letters with both Henry Cavill and Tyler Hoechlin—the two most recent actors to portray Superman on screen.

Corenswet described the messages as kind and encouraging, noting that both Cavill and Hoechlin refrained from giving direct advice. “Both of them interestingly said in their own words, ‘I’m not gonna try to give you any tips.’ They really just conveyed to me an encouragement and a sense of ‘have fun with it,’” he shared. This generous gesture highlights the camaraderie and respect between actors who have taken on one of cinema’s most iconic roles.

Henry Cavill’s tenure as Superman began with Man of Steel and extended through several DC Extended Universe films, cementing his version as a modern superhero staple. Meanwhile, Tyler Hoechlin became the face of Superman for many fans in the Arrowverse TV shows, including Supergirl, The Flash, and his own series Superman & Lois.

Though Cavill’s departure from the role sparked some disappointment among fans—sparking campaigns advocating for his return—Corenswet remains unfazed, focusing instead on the positive legacy left by his predecessors. Hoechlin’s portrayal, widely praised for its grounded and heartfelt approach, also set a high bar, even as rumors circulated about the ending of Superman & Lois possibly relating to James Gunn’s upcoming film plans.

Elizabeth Tulloch, who played Lois Lane on the show, hinted that the conclusion of the series might have been influenced by the desire to avoid overlapping Superman storylines.

Despite fan debates and speculation, Corenswet’s account emphasizes a smooth and supportive handoff. With encouragement rather than advice, Cavill and Hoechlin’s messages seem to have helped Corenswet embrace the role with enthusiasm and confidence.

As audiences eagerly await James Gunn’s Superman, it’s clear that the new actor stepping into Clark Kent’s shoes has the goodwill and blessing of those who came before—a promising sign for the future of the Man of Steel on screen.
