Netflix’s latest crime drama Adolescence has quickly captured viewers’ attention, not only for its gripping storyline but also for an unexpected Hollywood connection: Brad Pitt’s role as an executive producer. The four-part series, directed by Philip Barantini, premiered on March 13 and follows the harrowing fallout after schoolboy Jamie (Owen Cooper) is arrested for murdering his classmate Katie.
The show, which also stars Stephen Graham as Jamie’s father Eddie Miller, Christine Tremarco as his mother, and Ashley Walters as Detective Inspector Luke Bascombe, has been praised for its intense performances and bold exploration of pressing social issues—namely the rise of misogyny among young boys.
But what left many viewers truly stunned was Pitt’s name appearing in the credits. “Brad Pitt producing Adolescence is crazy, what?” one surprised fan posted on social media. Another wrote: “Seeing Brad Pitt’s executive producer credit on Adolescence threw me off.”
Pitt’s involvement came through his production company, Plan B Entertainment, which co-produced the series alongside Warp Films and Matriarch Productions. While he doesn’t appear on screen, his executive producer credit highlights his contributions to the development and production of the show. Director Philip Barantini confirmed the actor’s hands-on enthusiasm, telling Radio Times: “Brad was on the phone with us, and he was so enthusiastic.”
This isn’t the first time Barantini has teamed up with Plan B Entertainment, the production company behind major films such as Troy, The Departed, and the forthcoming Mickey 17. However, it’s a first for many fans of Adolescence, who were thrilled—and surprised—to see a Hollywood heavyweight lending his influence to the gritty British drama.
