Filming for Alejandro González Iñárritu’s highly anticipated, untitled film starring Tom Cruise has been temporarily halted following an injury to veteran actor John Goodman. The 72-year-old actor sustained a hip injury outside of filming, prompting a brief pause in production.
Warner Bros. quickly issued a statement confirming that Goodman received immediate medical attention after the incident. “He received immediate medical attention that led to a brief delay in shooting to allow him time to recover,” the statement read. It added, “The production resumes shooting next week following John’s full recovery.”
This film, which marks Iñárritu’s return to English-language cinema after his Oscar-winning The Revenant (2015), is slated to hit theaters in 2026. It also serves as the first major project under Tom Cruise’s new deal with Warner Bros., which was announced earlier this year. The agreement will see Cruise producing both original projects and franchise-based films for the studio, a departure from his long-standing relationship with Paramount, which has helmed his Mission: Impossible and Top Gun franchises.
Details about the plot remain scarce, but it is rumored to center around Cruise’s character, who will portray the world’s strongest man on a mission to save mankind from the brink of self-inflicted destruction. The movie’s premise suggests familiar action elements, although its specifics are still under wraps.
Alongside Cruise and Goodman, the film’s star-studded cast includes Sandra Hüller, Michael Stuhlbarg, Jesse Plemons, Sophie Wilde, and Riz Ahmed. The script is co-written by Iñárritu, Sabina Berman, Alexander Dinelaris, and Nicolás Giacobone. The film is produced by Iñárritu and Cruise in partnership with Mary Parent of Legendary Entertainment.
Filming is taking place in the UK, and despite the delay, production is expected to resume shortly. Fans can look forward to this movie’s release on October 2, 2026, marking yet another exciting chapter in the careers of Cruise and Iñárritu.
