Tom Cruise Vows to Act Into His 100s: “I Will Never Stop”

Tom Cruise has no intention of slowing down—ever. The 62-year-old Hollywood powerhouse has vowed to continue making movies well into his centenarian years, declaring in a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter: “I actually said I’m going to make movies into my 80s; actually, I’m going to make them into my 100s.”
A Career at Full Throttle
Cruise’s relentless energy has kept him at the top of the box office for four decades, and recent hits show no signs of waning. Top Gun: Maverick (2022) became a cultural phenomenon and grossed over $1.4 billion worldwide, while Mission: Impossible—Dead Reckoning (2023) reinforced his status as cinema’s most bankable action star.
His next major outing, Mission: Impossible—The Final Reckoning, lands in theaters on May 23, 2025, and is widely expected to mark his farewell to the role of IMF agent Ethan Hunt. Still, Cruise made it clear: stepping away from one franchise doesn’t mean stepping away from Hollywood.
Following in Legendary Footsteps
Cruise has long admired actors who defy age barriers. In a 2023 interview with The Sunday Morning Herald, he called Harrison Ford a “legend” and said, “I hope to keep making Mission: Impossible films until I’m his age.” Ford, now 83, reprised his role as Indiana Jones just last year.
Now, Cruise has moved the goalposts even further, extending his ambitions into triple-digit territory. For him, the idea of retirement simply doesn’t fit.
A Packed Slate Ahead
Even without Ethan Hunt, Cruise’s calendar is brimming. Projects in the pipeline include:
-
Top Gun 3 – a sequel to the record-breaking Maverick
-
Days of Thunder sequel – revisiting his 1990 racing drama
-
Alejandro G. Iñárritu’s untitled project – co-starring Emma D’Arcy, Sandra Hüller, John Goodman, and Jesse Plemons, slated for release on October 2, 2026
Speaking earlier this year about working with the Birdman and The Revenant director, Cruise said he was having “the time of my life” on set.
The Enduring Mission
With Mission: Impossible—The Final Reckoning arriving in May, audiences may soon say goodbye to Ethan Hunt—but not to Tom Cruise. For the actor, the mission is clear: keep performing spectacular stunts, delivering big-screen thrills, and pushing cinematic limits for as long as possible—perhaps even into the next century of his life.
If his track record is any indication, betting against him might just be the most impossible mission of all.
