Scarlett Johansson has swapped her iconic Black Widow suit for khakis to step into the thrilling world of Jurassic World: Rebirth, the latest chapter in the beloved dinosaur saga. Speaking at the film’s world premiere, Johansson enthusiastically described the movie as “a love letter to Steven Spielberg,” paying homage to the legendary filmmaker who first brought dinosaurs roaring to life on the big screen.
“It really is a love letter to Steven’s work,” Johansson told The Hollywood Reporter from the green carpet. “Fans of the Jurassic universe can expect to really feel the DNA of the original Jurassic Park in this film.”
A longtime fan of the franchise, Johansson shared her personal connection to the series: “I’m an enormous Jurassic Park fan. It’s one of the first films I remember seeing in the theatre. I remember seeing it so vividly. It was life-changing. It was mind-blowing. I cannot express how excited I am.” She also praised the screenplay, penned by David Koepp, who returned after nearly 30 years to write the script with a passion that impressed her deeply.
Her enthusiasm for joining the franchise has been clear for years. In a previous interview with ComicBook (via The Hollywood Reporter), Johansson joked, “I’ve been trying to get into this franchise in any possible way for over 10 years. I’m like, ‘I’ll die in the first five minutes! I can get eaten by whatever! I’ll do the craft service!’ I’ll do anything for it.”
Co-star Jonathan Bailey, who contributed to the film’s soundtrack, echoed the reverence for the original film, telling Variety, “Jurassic Park was the first film I saw with my family when I was five years old, and they’re all inside so we’re going to sit and watch it today.”
The Plot: A New Chapter in the Dinosaur Saga
Jurassic World: Rebirth picks up five years after the events of Jurassic World: Dominion. The Earth has become a hostile environment for dinosaurs, forcing the surviving creatures to live in isolated pockets. Central to the story are three colossal dinosaurs whose unique DNA might hold the secret to a life-saving drug—a plot that promises both adventure and high stakes.
The film stars an ensemble cast including Scarlett Johansson, Jonathan Bailey, Mahershala Ali, Rupert Friend, Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, Luna Blaise, David Iacono, Audrina Miranda, Ed Skrein, Philippine Velge, and Bechir Sylvain.
Jurassic World: Rebirth is set for theatrical release on July 2, inviting audiences to revisit the thrilling, dinosaur-filled world that captured imaginations decades ago—with a heartfelt nod to the visionary Steven Spielberg who started it all.
