New ‘Star Wars’ Comic Will Finally Reveal the Millennium Falcon’s Missing Years

For a franchise as vast and beloved as Star Wars, it might seem that every story has already been told—especially when it comes to the original trilogy’s iconic characters and ships. Yet, after a decade of fan speculation, Marvel Comics is set to fill a major gap in the saga’s timeline by revealing what happened to the Millennium Falcon between Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens.

The Millennium Falcon, Han Solo’s legendary spaceship, has long captured the imagination of fans. We’ve seen Han acquire the ship in Solo: A Star Wars Story and rediscover it decades later in The Force Awakens. But what occurred in the years in between? The answer has remained a mystery—until now.

This fall, Marvel will release Star Wars: Han Solo – Hunt for the Falcon, a miniseries designed to bridge that very gap. The official synopsis teases:

“In the time before The Force Awakens, where is the Millennium Falcon?! Less than satisfied with a settled life, Han Solo lands on the idea of reclaiming the Falcon and returning to a life of adventure. The problem is, he can’t find it. After enlisting a less than enthusiastic Chewbacca, the duo embarks upon a quest to reclaim the greatest ship in the galaxy. Standing in their way are a laundry list of rogues who have staked a claim to the Millennium Falcon as well, like the villainous scoundrel who stole the Falcon, Ducain.”

Writer Rodney Barnes expressed his excitement, calling the project “a dream come true.” In an interview with GameRant, Barnes reflected on how much Han, Leia, Chewbacca, and Lando meant to him as a child and how honored he is to write new adventures featuring the iconic quartet.

Marvel’s Role in Expanding the Star Wars Universe

While some argue that Star Wars content has been overextended, Marvel Comics remains a crucial storyteller for fans craving deeper lore and stories that aren’t likely to appear on the big or small screen. For instance, in 2020, Marvel comics revealed the fate of Luke Skywalker’s blue lightsaber after The Empire Strikes Back. More recently, the comic adaptation of The Rise of Skywalker offered expanded scenes for General Leia, enriching her character’s final moments following Carrie Fisher’s tragic passing.

Hunt for the Falcon follows this tradition, promising fans a peek at an important chapter of Star Wars history that may never be adapted into movies or TV shows. With Harrison Ford unlikely to return as Han Solo—especially after the mixed reception to Solo: A Star Wars Story—this comic series is the perfect medium to explore the Falcon’s hidden journey.

Filling in the Canon

The Force Awakens hinted at the Falcon’s mysterious whereabouts through Rey’s explanation: she stole it from Unkar Plutt, who had stolen it from the Irving Boys, who in turn took it from Ducain, a character only briefly mentioned. Han also claims Ducain stole it from him. This tangled backstory has left fans hungry for clarity.

Now, Star Wars: Han Solo – Hunt for the Falcon will finally unravel this tangled history, offering fans the definitive account of the Falcon’s missing years in a way only Marvel Comics can.

As Star Wars fans prepare for this eagerly awaited miniseries, one thing is clear: even decades after the original films, the galaxy far, far away still holds many secrets waiting to be uncovered.
