At 79, Dame Helen Mirren revealed her genuine thrill about filming a bedroom scene with legendary actor Harrison Ford for the drama series 1923, a prequel to Yellowstone. Speaking candidly during The Wrap’s Awards Season Screening Series, Mirren shared the mix of excitement and starstruck awe she experienced working alongside the 82-year-old icon known for Star Wars and Indiana Jones.
Joined on stage by co-stars Brandon Sklenar and Aminah Nieves, Mirren reflected humorously on the intimate scene with Ford’s character, Jacob. “I had to be in the bed with him, you know,” she said with a smile, admitting privately, “But I’m lying there and I’m thinking, ‘I’m in bed with Harrison Ford.’” Her excitement was so palpable she confessed, “I was so excited, I can’t tell you,” though she tried to “pretend to be cool.” She cheekily asked the interviewer to keep this confession secret: “Don’t tell him. Promise me.”
Their connection goes back decades—they previously starred together in the 1986 film The Mosquito Coast. Mirren’s admiration for Ford runs deep. “He’s amazing,” she said, praising not only his enduring status as a major movie star but also his humility. “He really is. The stature he’s held, as a major, humongous movie star, all that time, at the same time as somebody who doesn’t love the limelight.” She described Ford’s enigmatic charm: “He has this interior quality about him,” and lauded his generosity and professionalism on set, calling him “not remotely spoiled” and “immensely generous.”
Ford reciprocated the respect. In February, on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, he confirmed Mirren’s lasting allure when Colbert showed a still from The Mosquito Coast. “She is still sexy,” Ford said with a smile, drawing laughs from the audience.
Their undeniable chemistry has carried them through another season of 1923, despite Mirren revealing she had to break one of her personal acting rules to accept the role. Their reunion on screen offers audiences not just compelling performances but a genuine, warm rapport between two cinematic legends.
