Since stepping into the iconic red-and-blue suit in 2016, Tom Holland hasn’t just thrilled fans on the big screen—he’s been spreading joy and inspiration to young patients across the United States through surprise visits to children’s hospitals. Often appearing dressed as Spider-Man himself, Holland has made stops in cities including Atlanta, New York, and Los Angeles, turning hospital rooms into moments of magic.
Holland’s journey of real-life heroism began during the filming of Spider-Man: Homecoming in August 2016. While on location in Atlanta, he surprised patients at Egleston Children’s Hospital. Sharing the experience on Instagram, Holland called the visit “such a wonderful experience,” referring to the children as “little inspirations.” The heartfelt encounter set the tone for many more visits to come.
Later that year, Holland teamed up with co-star Zendaya for a visit to New York Presbyterian Hospital. Dressed as Spider-Man, Holland engaged with young patients and shared a memorable laugh when a child confessed to being more of a Batman fan. The lighthearted moment showcased Holland’s warmth and ability to connect, transcending superhero rivalries to simply brighten a child’s day.
In June 2019, as part of the promotional tour for Spider-Man: Far From Home, Holland returned to hospital visits alongside Zendaya and Jake Gyllenhaal at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. The trio surprised patients with visits to their rooms, posed for photos, signed posters, and even performed stunts—bringing the energy and excitement of the Spider-Man universe directly to those who needed it most. In a charming moment, Holland joked with a child that he had “used all his webs on the way over,” eliciting smiles and laughter.
These surprise appearances have become a beloved part of Holland’s off-screen legacy, showing that his role as Spider-Man extends beyond entertainment to genuine acts of kindness. By stepping into costume and spending time with children facing health challenges, Holland embodies the spirit of a true hero—one who understands that sometimes, the greatest superpower is bringing hope and happiness to others.
