At the star-studded premiere of Ballerina held Tuesday night at Hollywood’s iconic TCL Chinese Theatre, lead actress Ana de Armas openly expressed her gratitude for Tom Cruise’s enthusiastic support of the film. De Armas described Cruise’s endorsement as “unbelievable,” emphasizing that his encouragement goes far beyond just the John Wick spinoff.
“You know what, he supports every movie,” de Armas told Variety’s Marc Malkin. “He really wants the industry and cinema to do well and [wants] people going to the theaters. We’re working together, so he got to see Ballerina and he actually really liked it. He loved the John Wicks.”
Highlighting the camaraderie in Hollywood, de Armas added, “It is very special that someone like him is supporting [Ballerina]. It is really special in general to have other actors and people supporting each other. We can do well all together.”
Cruise, currently promoting Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning, also publicly praised Ballerina and de Armas’ dedication. Speaking with the Associated Press, he said, “John Wick, I love that franchise and what those guys do. I know what it takes to create these kinds of stories and do it. And now they have Ballerina coming out with Ana, that’s outstanding.”
Ballerina, set between the third and fourth installments of the John Wick saga, follows de Armas as an assassin trained in the traditions of the Ruska Roma organization, seeking revenge for her father’s death.
De Armas also spoke candidly about the physical demands of the role: “Everything hurt. My hands, my nails were broken, bruises everywhere, my neck. It was a lot of fun actually.” Her commitment to performing intense stunt work adds to the film’s authentic and action-packed appeal.
The mutual support between Cruise and de Armas underscores a larger movement within Hollywood to champion cinema and encourage audiences to return to theaters—especially in an era where streaming dominates.
As Ballerina hits the big screen, the collaboration and encouragement among stars like Tom Cruise and Ana de Armas highlight the vibrant, interconnected spirit of the film industry today.
