The Songs 50 Cent Wished He Could Re-Record—and Why He Walked Away from Dozens More

50 Cent is known for his unapologetic bravado, aggressive delivery, and razor-sharp business instincts. But even for a rap mogul with countless hits and platinum plaques, not every track hits the mark—at least in his own eyes. Over the years, 50 has opened up about songs he regrets releasing, with one in particular standing out as a collaboration he would rather forget.

That song is “Pearly Gates,” a track by Mobb Deep featuring 50 Cent on their 2006 Blood Money album. The song drew controversy for Prodigy’s blasphemous and confrontational lyrics aimed at religion and the concept of heaven. Though 50 Cent delivered his verse without any similar content, his involvement in the track later became a point of discomfort. The backlash was significant enough to warrant censorship in some versions of the album, and 50 later expressed regret for associating with a message that clashed with his personal beliefs and public image.

But 50’s cautious approach to his legacy doesn’t stop there. He has reportedly recorded entire albums’ worth of material—sometimes up to 20 songs—only to shelve them when they failed to meet his own creative standards. One such abandoned concept album lacked the raw intensity he felt fans expected from him. “It didn’t have the aggression,” he later admitted, referencing the ferocious energy that defined his iconic debut Get Rich or Die Tryin’.

While there may not be an extensive list of songs he’s publicly stated he wants to re-record, 50 Cent’s willingness to scrap full projects shows an artist highly attuned to his brand and reputation. In an industry that often prioritizes quantity, his measured and sometimes ruthless self-editing speaks volumes about his long-term vision.

For an artist who built his empire on authenticity and precision, every verse counts—and sometimes, not releasing a song is the most powerful statement of all.
