Rumer Willis is saddling up and stepping into a new era—both professionally and personally. The eldest daughter of Hollywood legends Bruce Willis and Demi Moore is blazing her own trail with Trail of Vengeance, a gritty new Western that’s as physical as it is personal. And for Rumer, who’s no stranger to the weight of legacy, the stakes go far beyond the screen.
In a recent conversation with Extra’s Billy Bush, Rumer opened up about the pressures—and pride—of honoring her father’s iconic action legacy. “When I’m on sets, especially doing any sort of physical stuff, I pulled the stunt guy Dale aside and I was like, ‘Listen, you need to show me how to make this look good because I’ve got a big-time legacy right here to make sure I live up to, so none of this sissy stuff.’”
Known for his roles in Die Hard and The Fifth Element, Bruce Willis redefined modern action heroes with his grit and swagger. And while Rumer’s journey may have started in her parents’ shadow, Trail of Vengeance is her chance to break through with a performance that’s unapologetically intense. “We had a lot of fight scenes,” she shared, laughing. “We would joke on set about how much I get slapped around in this movie. It’s very aggressive.” Yet despite the bruises, she emerged feeling “really empowered.”
She plans to share the film with her father, who continues to battle frontotemporal dementia—a diagnosis the family went public with in 2023. “He’s great. He’s really good,” Rumer said, radiating warmth. She also confirmed she’ll be spending Father’s Day with him, a holiday that clearly holds deeper meaning this year.
Rumer’s mother, Demi Moore, is also experiencing a well-deserved career renaissance with her Oscar-nominated role in The Substance. Rumer spoke with heartfelt admiration: “To sit there and watch her get acknowledgment, not only from her peers but just this industry and people as a whole, I think, was so lovely… not only as her daughter but also as a peer and an actor.”
It’s that mix of lineage and determination that’s driving Rumer forward—even in moments of doubt. “Right before I got this movie, I was like, ‘Man, I’m a mom. Am I still supposed to be doing this?’” she recalled. But one audition changed everything. “I remember doing the audition and going, ‘You know what? I can do this. I could really do this well.’ And I got really excited.”
At home, Rumer is thriving as a first-time mom to two-year-old Louetta, whom she describes as “ahead of schedule” and brimming with personality. “Her language is off the charts, and she’s so smart and funny and kind and wonderful,” she gushed. “I love it. It’s, like, my favorite part of my life.”
With Trail of Vengeance now playing in select theaters and on demand, Rumer Willis is proving that action runs in the family—but this time, the story is all her own.
