Snoop Dogg Says He Would Relive Falling in Love With His Wife, Shante Broadus: “That Was Special, Man”

Snoop Dogg may be a global rap icon, but when it comes to matters of the heart, he’s just a man deeply in love with the woman who’s stood by his side for over three decades.

During a recent appearance on The Breakfast Club, the 53-year-old rapper opened up about his most cherished memory—and it had nothing to do with music or fame. Asked by Charlamagne tha God what moment he would relive just to feel it again, Snoop didn’t hesitate: “Falling in love with my wife for the first time.”

With a nostalgic smile, he described the emotion of those early days with Shante Broadus, his high school sweetheart. “I had butterflies in my stomach and all kinda stuff,” he recalled. “Just that pure feeling, going back to that… because after you have so much success you forget about what regular stuff feels like. That was special, man.”

Their love story began in the halls of Long Beach Polytechnic High School, long before Calvin Broadus Jr. became known to the world as Snoop Dogg. The couple married in 1997 and have since built a sprawling family and business empire together. But it’s not just longevity that defines their bond—it’s resilience, humor, and an unshakable foundation of mutual respect.

Snoop even offered a cheeky aside during the interview, joking, “It was a great feeling knowing I was gonna get to do it to her,” reminding fans that even after 27 years of marriage, the spark is still very much alive.

Their journey has had its bumps. In 2004, the couple briefly split and filed for divorce. But love won out—they reconciled and renewed their vows in 2008 in a heartfelt ceremony surrounded by family and friends. Since then, they’ve only grown stronger, both as partners and co-parents.

Together, they share three children: Corde (30), Cordell (28), and Cori (25). Snoop also has a son, Julian Broadus, from a previous relationship with Laurie Helmond. And in recent years, the rapper has embraced another role he cherishes: grandfather. He became a grandfather in 2015 and now has seven grandchildren. His most recent grandchild arrived in early 2024, after Cori gave birth three months prematurely.

In September 2024, Snoop spoke to PEOPLE about the secret to his lasting marriage. “She understands me,” he said. “She’s a great mother, a tremendous grandmother, an excellent wife, and a great friend. She knows how to push all of my buttons to make me act a motherf—ing fool or to make me act cool, and I love it.”

Their love is now immortalized in more than just family memories. Snoop’s latest album cover features Shante—an intentional and emotional move. “For my whole career, she had my back. And this is the first time I put her on the front,” he said. “I made this album cover so that everybody can know that she got my back, she with me, she standing by my side.”

Through fame, fatherhood, and even a brief separation, Snoop and Shante have shown what it means to grow together—not just in love, but in life. And if he could do it all over again? He’d go back to the butterflies.
