Jim Carrey Slashes Price on His Mansion Again—What’s Really Driving the $10 Million Drop?

Jim Carrey, the legendary comedic actor known for his roles in Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, The Truman Show, and the Sonic the Hedgehog trilogy, has once again reduced the asking price of his longtime Los Angeles mansion. Now listed for $18.75 million, this marks a $1 million price drop after a previous deal fell through.

The actor originally listed the sprawling 2-acre property in Brentwood in early 2023 for $28 million, but the price has been trimmed several times throughout the year. By December, the mansion was under contract with a price tag of $19.75 million, but the deal ultimately collapsed. The property was re-listed in February, now priced at $18.75 million, indicating Carrey’s continued efforts to find a buyer for the home he has owned since 1994.

A Look Inside Carrey’s Brentwood Retreat

Carrey purchased the home on North Tigertail Canyon Road nearly three decades ago, and over the years, the property has become a stunning representation of both his personal and professional achievements. The ranch-style home, built in 1951, spans over 10,000 square feet and includes five bedrooms. It also features an Art Deco-style theater, a round sunroom, and a covered patio that leads to a pool deck with its own waterfall.

The grounds are equally impressive, with pathways and trails leading to various garden areas, including one that leads to a standalone yoga and meditation space—ideal for unwinding after a busy day. The estate also includes a tennis court and a guest house, making it a perfect retreat for both relaxation and entertainment.

Wildfires and the Real Estate Market

The property’s most recent listing has coincided with some unsettling events in the surrounding area. While Carrey’s mansion was not directly impacted by the Palisades fire in January, the blaze came dangerously close, prompting evacuations in nearby Mandeville Canyon. The fire’s proximity to the home, combined with the uncertainty that often follows such natural disasters, could have contributed to the collapse of the earlier deal.

In the weeks following the fire, some pending real estate transactions in the region were canceled, as insurance firms and banks hesitated to commit amid the heightened risk. The wildfire’s shadow may have cast doubt on the stability of property values in the area, potentially influencing the deal’s failure.

Why is Jim Carrey Selling?

Despite the mansion’s many amenities and the stunning views of the surrounding area, Carrey has indicated that he is no longer spending much time at the property, which is why he decided to sell. He shared in a statement last year that his decision to part ways with the home was based on the fact that he simply wasn’t using it as much as he had in the past.

For Carrey, who made his mark as a comedic icon in the 1990s with blockbuster hits like Ace Ventura (1994), Dumb and Dumber (1994), and The Mask (1994), the time spent at his Brentwood home may no longer reflect the lifestyle he’s leading. He later took on more dramatic roles, earning Golden Globe awards for his performances in The Truman Show (1998) and Man on the Moon (1999), but his focus has increasingly shifted toward other endeavors in recent years.

The Future of Carrey’s Property

As of now, Carrey’s home remains on the market for $18.75 million. Whether the price drop will help attract a buyer in what has become a competitive real estate market remains to be seen. Given the property’s incredible features and Carrey’s history in the neighborhood, the mansion is sure to find a buyer eventually, though the recent wildfire and Carrey’s diminished need for such a large home may complicate the process.

While the house may be leaving Carrey’s hands, his legacy as one of Hollywood’s most versatile actors remains solid, with a continued presence in film and television. As the actor’s real estate journey continues, it’s clear that this house, like the roles he has played throughout his career, will leave an indelible mark on the Los Angeles real estate scene.
