After five successful seasons, CBS recently announced the cancellation of The Equalizer, leaving fans of the action-packed drama disappointed. The series, which starred Queen Latifah as Robyn McCall, a former CIA operative who uses her skills to help those in need, garnered a loyal following throughout its run. But with ratings dipping after a shift to a later timeslot, the show’s journey has come to an end.

On Friday, Latifah took to Instagram to address the news, sharing her thoughts on the cancellation and expressing her gratitude to those involved with the show, as well as the fans who supported it. The Emmy and Grammy Award winner described playing Robyn McCall as “everything I hoped it would be” and acknowledged the incredible work done behind the scenes.

“Shakim [Compere] and I at Flavor Unit are always excited to bring these kinds of roles and projects to life — and then we just hope you love them as much as we do,” she wrote in her post. “The Equalizer blew past every dream we had for it, and having the opportunity to do this for five seasons honestly feels surreal.”

Latifah went on to praise the “amazing cast, crew, producers and writers” of The Equalizer, expressing her deep appreciation for their dedication. She also took a moment to thank the loyal fans who supported the show throughout its run, saying, “Y’all have been so loyal, so loud and so ride-or-die — and that’s exactly why we keep doing this. We can’t thank you enough. It means the world to us.”

The announcement of the show’s cancellation comes after a string of CBS series cancellations, including FBI: International, FBI: Most Wanted, and Poppa’s House. The Equalizer experienced a drop in viewership after its timeslot was moved to a later hour on Sunday nights, contributing to the network’s decision to end the series. Despite this, Latifah emphasized the immense success of the show and the joy she felt in bringing such a groundbreaking character to life.

As the post concluded, Latifah teased her next project, promising fans that she would “be back kicking a** in something new real soon.” She added, “Can’t wait to share it with you.” This excited fans, who are eager to see what the multi-talented star will take on next.

Latifah, who also served as an executive producer on The Equalizer alongside Shakim Compere, Joseph C. Wilson, Debra Martin Chase, John Davis, John Fox, Loretha Jones, and Rob Hanning, has no shortage of future possibilities. As the entertainment world awaits her next move, the star continues to build on her already impressive career, promising more action-packed roles and exciting ventures to come.

CBS’ 2025-26 schedule will be announced on May 7, and fans are anxiously awaiting to see what new opportunities lie ahead for Queen Latifah.
