Scarlett Johansson, long known for her commanding performances in films like Lost in Translation and Black Widow, is finally stepping into the prehistoric world she’s always dreamed of. At CinemaCon 2025, the actress revealed that starring in a Jurassic movie had been a goal of hers for over 15 years.
“It has been a lifelong dream to be in a Jurassic movie,” Johansson said. “Each time I heard that they were making a movie, I’d reach out and you know, say ‘I’m available here.’”
Her persistence has finally paid off. Johansson takes on the role of Zora Bennett, a covert operations expert leading a daring mission to secure dinosaur genetic material in Jurassic World Rebirth. Directed by Gareth Edwards (Rogue One: A Star Wars Story), the new installment is set five years after the events of Jurassic World Dominion. The film also stars Jonathan Bailey (Bridgerton), Mahershala Ali (Moonlight), Rupert Friend (The Death of Stalin), and Manuel Garcia-Rulfo (The Magnificent Seven).
Edwards, who joked about his childhood obsession with the original Jurassic Park, expressed his excitement about directing Jurassic World Rebirth. “For the longest time, I thought there was no hope of a cure until last year when I received this miraculous email with a screenplay attached,” he quipped, adding a lighthearted touch to the film’s CinemaCon debut.
Johansson’s journey to the Jurassic franchise is a testament to her determination. For years, she reached out whenever a new movie in the series was announced, eager to fulfill a personal dream. With Jurassic World Rebirth, she finally steps into the universe that captured her imagination—this time, not as a fan, but as a key player.
