Hugh Jackman is stepping up to support his close friends, Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds, in their ongoing legal battle with director Justin Baldoni. Sources close to the situation have revealed that Jackman, who is known for his strong friendships in Hollywood, is “100 percent” on the side of the couple, whom he considers like family.
The legal fight began in December 2024, when Blake Lively filed a lawsuit against Baldoni, the director of It Ends With Us, accusing him of inappropriate behavior on set. The situation escalated when Baldoni countersued, not only accusing Lively and her husband Ryan Reynolds of orchestrating a smear campaign against him but also filing a lawsuit against The New York Times. All parties have denied the claims, and the case is set to go to trial in March 2025.
Amid the public fallout, other famous names have found themselves tied to the controversy, including Taylor Swift. But now, it seems Jackman, who has been a longtime friend of Reynolds, will likely be dragged into the legal proceedings as well. A source close to the situation revealed that Jackman may be deposed before the trial, potentially shedding light on Reynolds’ actions during the filming of Deadpool 3, which coincided with Lively’s work on It Ends With Us. The source assured that if this goes to trial, Jackman will “step up” and support his friends without hesitation.
“If this actually goes all the way to court and Hugh is forced to take the stand, there’s no question he will step up,” the source said. “At this point, Ryan is like a brother to him, he will have his back no matter what it takes.”
Despite knowing that Justin Baldoni’s legal team might attempt to depose him, Jackman remains unphased. Another source explained that the Wolverine star has no issue with being involved in the legal process, as he has “nothing to hide.” The source added, “Hugh has no doubt about Ryan and Blake’s conduct and is 100 percent on their side.”
The lawsuit between Lively and Baldoni stemmed from a series of disturbing allegations about Baldoni’s behavior on set, including claims that he shared inappropriate content and made comments about Lively’s personal life. In retaliation, Baldoni has accused Reynolds and Lively of trying to destroy his reputation, alleging that they hired a crisis manager to launch a PR campaign against him.
As the legal battle intensifies, Jackman’s involvement has become a comforting source of support for his friends. A separate source noted that Jackman is “excited” to help out and “hates seeing the stress that Ryan and Blake are under.” He is reportedly fiercely protective of the couple, calling them “the victims” in the situation. The source added, “It sickens him that they’re being dragged through the mud, when in his view, they’re the victims in all of this. He’s being very supportive behind the scenes and already defending them to anyone who will listen.”
The case continues to unfold, with the public and legal sides of the battle heating up. Jackman’s unwavering support for Reynolds and Lively is a clear indication of the deep bonds of friendship in Hollywood, as he joins others in standing behind the couple in what has become a highly publicized and contentious dispute.
