Elizabeth Olsen isn’t afraid to mix work and personal life, especially when it comes to her relationship with her husband, musician Robbie Arnett. In a candid conversation with her The Assessment costar Alicia Vikander for a PEOPLE in 10 segment, Olsen shared a surprising detail about the topics she loves most with her husband—stories.

While many people may seek to keep work and personal life separate, Olsen, 36, explained that for her and Arnett, the lines blur when it comes to discussing their creative work. “To us, the thing we love most is talking about stories,” she says. “Talking about work is talking about why we do it, what’s a good way to crack it.”

It’s clear that storytelling is a central passion for Olsen, and she enjoys delving into the nuances of her craft with someone who understands the process deeply. “It’s my favorite thing to talk about — I mean, one of my favorite things to talk about, with my husband. So I endlessly enjoy it,” she adds, revealing her love for the discussions that revolve around the art of storytelling.

Vikander, who is married to actor Michael Fassbender and shares two sons with him, agrees wholeheartedly with Olsen. “I think having somebody who understands and really gets the passion that you have, it’s wonderful to have those talks,” says Vikander. “It’s wonderful, the kind of conversations you can have when you show him something that you’re really passionate about.”

Olsen’s conversation with Arnett isn’t limited to lighthearted banter; it’s an intellectual exchange about their work and the deeper layers of the art they create. In her relationship with Arnett, there’s a shared understanding of the intricacies of storytelling, and that seems to be a cornerstone of their bond.

As for Vikander’s thoughts on pop culture, she was quick to acknowledge Olsen’s famous twin sisters, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, in a lighthearted exchange. “Yes! Didn’t everyone?” she laughed when asked if she was aware of the Olsen twins growing up in Sweden.

In addition to discussing her personal life, Olsen also touched on her new sci-fi thriller The Assessment, where she plays a character in a dystopian future who, alongside her partner (played by Himesh Patel), undergoes a series of tests to determine their fitness to become parents. The film explores deep themes about the privileges and freedoms people assume, and it left Olsen reflecting on questions of what makes someone deserving of resources and opportunities.

“The film makes me reflect on most is … what we assume are innate privileges, freedoms, and liberties, and how we assume that they’re innate depending on where we are born,” she shared in a separate chat with PEOPLE. “What is the intention? Why are we deserving? What are we going to do differently? What kind of child are we going to bring into this world that make us so privileged to be able to use all these resources?”

Olsen goes on to praise the film for tackling these important themes in a way that feels organic and understated. “What I loved about the story is that it has all that kind of messaging, but it’s done in such an elegant, simple way without hitting you over the head with it constantly,” she adds.

For Olsen, the film offers a chance to explore complex and thought-provoking topics, all while contributing to a compelling narrative. And as for her conversations with Arnett? They’re likely to continue being just as enriching, as they bond over stories and reflect on the bigger questions in life.
