Tom Hiddleston and Hayley Atwell were all smiles as they greeted a group of eager fans following another successful performance of Much Ado About Nothing at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane in London on Friday. The two actors, who have been receiving rave reviews for their performances, were in high spirits as they signed autographs and chatted with theatregoers, sharing their enthusiasm after another well-received show.
Hiddleston, 44, known for his role as Loki in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, appeared relaxed and jovial, sporting a casual padded blue coat with a hood. His co-star, Atwell, 42, looked effortlessly chic in a black coat with a structured collar, accessorizing with a gold statement necklace and earrings. The American actress, who is best known for her portrayal of Peggy Carter in the Captain America franchise, styled her brunette hair in a simple bun.

The two stars are currently playing the iconic sparring lovers Benedick and Beatrice in Jamie Lloyd’s fresh and dynamic adaptation of Shakespeare’s beloved comedy. Much Ado About Nothing runs until April 5, 2025, and has been widely praised for the “explosive chemistry” between Hiddleston and Atwell. Their on-stage rapport has captivated audiences and critics alike, cementing their status as a standout pair in this season’s Shakespeare performances at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane.
The production is part of a special Shakespeare season at the theatre, with The Tempest also running until February 2025. These are the first Shakespearean plays to be staged at the venue since Peter Brook’s The Tempest in 1957, which featured John Gielgud. Directed by Jamie Lloyd, known for his bold and inventive approach to classical theatre, this season is drawing considerable attention. Lloyd previously directed the highly successful Romeo and Juliet starring Tom Holland and Francesca Amewudah-Rivers.
Reflecting on his role in Much Ado About Nothing, Hiddleston shared his excitement about collaborating with Lloyd again, noting, “Working with Jamie Lloyd on Harold Pinter’s Betrayal was one of the most fulfilling and meaningful experiences of my performing life. I could not be more thrilled to have been given the opportunity to collaborate with him again, this time on one of Shakespeare’s most warm-hearted and joyful plays.”
Atwell echoed his sentiments, describing her excitement about joining Lloyd’s company for the third time in her career. “His bold and electric direction, combined with the warmth and wit of one of Shakespeare’s most celebrated comedic duos, is a truly exciting opportunity,” she said, adding, “I look forward to working with my talented friend Tom Hiddleston and bringing The Bard back to Theatre Royal Drury Lane.”
The pair’s chemistry extends beyond the stage, and fans have enjoyed glimpsing their playful side in interviews. Last month, Hiddleston appeared on The Graham Norton Show, where he delighted the audience by demonstrating some of his signature dance moves. Discussing the rehearsal process for Much Ado About Nothing, Hiddleston revealed that dancing was an integral part of their preparation. “We turn up in the morning and the first hour is dance hour, very useful for working off the mince pies,” he joked. He added that their production was full of warmth, light, and wit, with plenty of dancing to match the playful spirit of the play.
When asked about his signature dance move, Hiddleston quipped, “My signature move is just keep swimming,” before getting up from the sofa and performing a humorous wiggle, leaving the show’s guests in fits of laughter.
As Much Ado About Nothing continues its successful run, Hiddleston and Atwell’s performances are a highlight of London’s theatrical scene. Their chemistry both on and off stage has captivated audiences, ensuring this production will be remembered as one of the season’s standout performances.
