Jason Momoa has revealed new details about his upcoming role as the intergalactic mercenary Lobo in Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. The highly anticipated film is set to hit theaters in June 2026 as part of the newly rebooted DC Universe (DCU), marking a fresh chapter for DC on the big screen.
Momoa, previously known for his portrayal of Aquaman in the now-shelved DC Extended Universe, has made no secret of his enthusiasm for the character. Speaking with ScreenRant, the actor described Lobo as his “favorite comic book character” and expressed both excitement and nerves about stepping into the Czarnian bounty hunter’s boots. “This is the role I’ve always wanted to play,” Momoa said. “It’s kind of a no-brainer. I mean, we look pretty dead on, exactly like the character, and he’s pretty rough and gruff.” He also added, “I’ll say the bike’s really cool,” hinting at Lobo’s iconic Spacehog making an appearance.
However, fans hoping for an extended showcase of Lobo in Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow may need to temper their expectations. Momoa confirmed that while the character will feature in the film, his screen time will be limited. “It’s her movie,” he said, referring to Supergirl, “so it’s great. I just come in for a little bit.”
The film stars House of the Dragon’s Milly Alcock as Kara Zor-El, known as Supergirl, and is directed by DC co-chief James Gunn. Based on the acclaimed graphic novel by Tom King, Bilquis Evely, and Ana Norgueira, the story follows a young alien named Ruthye Marye Knoll (played by Eve Ridley) as she enlists Supergirl’s help in seeking vengeance for her father’s murder. The villain, Krem of the Yellow Hills, is portrayed by Matthias Schoenaerts, with David Krumholtz and Emily Beecham cast as Supergirl’s parents, Zor-El and Alura.
While Gunn has shared a first look at Alcock’s Supergirl, little else has been revealed about the film’s plot and characters. Momoa’s inclusion as Lobo adds a layer of intrigue to what is shaping up to be a pivotal film in the evolving DCU. Fans can look forward to seeing how the rough-edged Lobo fits into Supergirl’s standalone narrative and how the movie sets the stage for DC’s new era.
Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow is scheduled for release in June 2026, following the debut of Gunn’s Superman reboot earlier that year. With a packed slate of DC films ahead, including a Clayface movie in September, the DCU appears ready to redefine its cinematic legacy—starting with the iconic Czarnian’s long-awaited arrival.
