Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight recently opened up about Cillian Murphy’s performance in the upcoming movie spin-off The Immortal Man, which is set to be released on Netflix. When asked to sum up Murphy’s portrayal of Tommy Shelby, Knight didn’t hesitate, offering a single, powerful word: “remarkable.”

Murphy, known for his role as the charismatic and complex Birmingham gangster, returns to the franchise after six successful seasons of the original series, which concluded in 2022. Knight expressed immense satisfaction with the footage he’s seen so far, even though he hasn’t yet watched the first completed cut. He also praised the new cast members—Barry Keoghan, Tim Roth, and Rebecca Ferguson—noting that they “all excel” in their performances.

Knight shared with The Independent that he’s not concerned about meeting fans’ expectations. Instead, he focuses on following his instincts as a writer. “I think if you write things to second guess what an audience wants, you’ve already probably failed,” he explained. Instead, he trusts his vision and the talent of the cast and crew, believing that the end product will speak for itself.

With Murphy at the helm and a stellar supporting cast, Knight is confident that The Immortal Man will deliver something “completely phenomenal,” promising to provide the kind of gripping storytelling and unforgettable performances that made Peaky Blinders a cultural phenomenon.
