Harrison Ford Gets a Taste of Nigeria: John Boyega’s Wild Dinner Adventure!

For Star Wars fans, the behind-the-scenes stories from the sequel trilogy are almost as captivating as the films themselves. But for John Boyega, one particular memory stands out as his favorite—and it involves a unique dining experience with none other than Harrison Ford.

During his Popverse-moderated Spotlight panel at Emerald City Comic Con 2025, Boyega shared a heartwarming and humorous anecdote about taking the iconic Han Solo actor to a Nigerian restaurant in his local area. Boyega recalls that Ford had expressed a desire to experience something truly representative of his culture. “He asked me, ‘I’ve just been eating chicken breast and veggies. I just want to eat something that’s from your culture,’” Boyega said, referencing their conversations about his Nigerian heritage and dual citizenship.

The experience, however, wasn’t without its moments of tension—at least for Ford’s security team. “His personal security was like, ‘Where are you taking Indiana Jones?’” Boyega laughed. “I was like, ‘I’m taking Indiana Jones to the hood. I’m taking him to the trenches, because he has fans there too.’”

And, of course, Boyega was right. When they arrived at the restaurant, a crowd of Nigerians gathered outside upon recognizing Ford, eager to meet the legendary actor. Boyega chuckled as he recalled the exchange, where Ford, ever the humble and witty personality, responded to the fans with, “I used to be.”

We’ll admit it’s a bit cheeky to say he “used to be” Indiana Jones—because in our eyes, Ford will always be the adventurous archaeologist. Regardless, the memory of sharing such an experience with Ford in the heart of Boyega’s culture stands as a testament to their friendship, bridging the gap between Hollywood stardom and Boyega’s Nigerian roots.

The best part? Not only did Boyega get to introduce his co-star to Nigerian food and culture, but he also had the joy of amusing Ford’s bodyguards in the process. After all, when you can share good food, good company, and a few laughs at the expense of your security, what could be a better Star Wars memory?
