Harrison Ford Reacts to Shocking DNA Suggestion from Helen Mirren – You Won’t Believe What She Said!

Could legendary actors Helen Mirren and Harrison Ford secretly be related? It’s a thought that Mirren herself has entertained, following the undeniable chemistry she shares with Ford, both on and off-screen.
The two stars, who play onscreen couple Cara and Jacob Dutton in the Yellowstone prequel series 1923, have developed what Mirren describes as a “weird” and “connected” bond. Despite not working together since their collaboration on The Mosquito Coast in 1986, the reunion for 1923 felt as though no time had passed. Mirren compared it to reconnecting with a best friend from college after many years, but with an added sense of improvement—”even better, actually.”
“I don’t know if you feel the same, Harrison, but I certainly feel like that, that there is this weird, connected[ness],” Mirren tells PEOPLE in an exclusive interview. She then suggested an idea that left Ford in surprise: “Maybe we should do a DNA test. Maybe we are brother and sister in the end or something like that.”
Ford, clearly taken aback, humorously responded, “Well, that makes it even more bizarre,” prompting Mirren to quickly amend her suggestion. “Maybe cousins. That would be better.”
Despite the playful banter, the two actors share deep respect and admiration for one another. Ford, 82, admitted that the main attraction of 1923 was the opportunity to work with Mirren again. “The reality is that we met 40 or 50 years ago when we were doing Mosquito Coast. And so we meet now 40 years later. I’ve been told that she’s already signed up. She’s been told I’m already signed up,” Ford recalled.
Mirren echoed his sentiments, noting the rarity of finding an acting relationship that so effortlessly clicks. “There are a million different kinds of actors,” Ford continued. “They’re [as] different as dentists are to one another—but when there’s a fit, you feel it. It’s just a perfect bit of casting.”
In 1923, Mirren and Ford portray a complex, long-term relationship between two characters who are partners as much as they are lovers. This dynamic challenges the usual narrative we often see in films, where characters meet, fall in love, and live “happily ever after.” Instead, 1923 explores the “ever after” portion, depicting the enduring challenges and deep connection that forms between Cara and Jacob Dutton as they navigate the later years of their relationship.
As Mirren explains, “In movies, people get married or they meet-cute and they fall in love and they have hot sex or whatever, and then it’s all over, happily ever after. Well, this is the ever after. Now we’re seeing what happens at the end of that story, and you very rarely see that onscreen, but it’s actually something that people love to see.”
Ford agrees, emphasizing that their characters’ partnership is built on mutual dependence. “These two are partners as much as lovers, and depend on each other for things that are not part of their quiver of arrows. And it’s an extraordinary relationship that Taylor [Sheridan] has written for us to inhabit.”
As the second season of 1923 continues to unfold, it’s clear that the enduring connection between Mirren and Ford shines both in their performances and their off-screen camaraderie—whether or not they’re actually related.
