Fans of Mad Max: Fury Road, the 2015 post-apocalyptic action masterpiece starring Tom Hardy, may have reason to hope for a sequel. Director George Miller has recently opened up about the possibility of another installment in the Mad Max franchise, teasing the idea but also acknowledging the complexities of bringing it to life.
In a recent conversation with Vulture, Miller shared that while he would love to return to the world of Mad Max, he’s currently too busy to dive into production on another film. “We’ve got another script,” Miller revealed, hinting at the potential for a new chapter in the franchise. However, he noted that his mind is filled with numerous ideas, some already captured in detailed screenplays or notes, making it difficult to focus solely on one project.
“I find myself with way too many stories — not only in my head but in the form of screenplays or at least very detailed notes that are within reach of screenplays,” Miller explained, reflecting on the creative process that often leads to juggling multiple ideas at once.
While Miller has a script ready, he also pointed out the unpredictable nature of filmmaking. “Too often, you’re lining up to do a movie and then something happens. Some things fall into place, and some don’t,” he said. “So all I can say is we’ll see.”
Miller’s last contribution to the Mad Max saga was Fury Road, which was met with widespread critical acclaim and won six Academy Awards. Later, in 2024, he expanded the universe with Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, a prequel that stars Chris Hemsworth in the lead role, exploring the backstory of the iconic character played by Charlize Theron in Fury Road.
While it seems that fans will have to wait a bit longer for a direct Mad Max: Fury Road sequel, Miller’s statements leave open the tantalizing possibility of another high-octane adventure in the future. For now, however, the director remains focused on his many other projects, leaving fans eagerly awaiting the next move from the visionary filmmaker.
