Hollywood legend Harrison Ford has sadly announced that he will no longer be presenting at the 2025 Academy Awards due to a recent diagnosis of shingles. The 82-year-old actor, known for his iconic roles in the Indiana Jones and Star Wars franchises, received the diagnosis just days before the event. Entertainment Weekly can exclusively confirm that Ford, who was set to join a star-studded lineup of presenters, made the decision to withdraw from the ceremony this morning in order to focus on his health.
According to sources, Ford is resting and doing okay following the diagnosis. Shingles, as explained by the Mayo Clinic, is a viral infection caused by the varicella-zoster virus—the same virus responsible for chickenpox. The condition typically results in a painful rash that often appears as a stripe of blisters on one side of the body.
Ford’s health update comes just one week after his appearance at the 2025 SAG Awards, where he made a playful interruption during his Shrinking co-star Jessica Williams’ introduction on the Netflix broadcast. Ford’s charismatic and lively presence at such events has been a hallmark of his career, and fans were looking forward to seeing him at the Oscars this weekend.
Earlier this week, Ford was announced as one of the high-profile presenters for the 2025 Oscars, alongside other stars such as Dave Bautista, Gal Gadot, Andrew Garfield, Samuel L. Jackson, Margaret Qualley, Rachel Zegler, and Avatar: The Way of Water nominee Zoe Saldaña. The Oscars telecast, set to air on Sunday, will still feature many big names, including reigning acting winners Cillian Murphy, Emma Stone, Robert Downey Jr., and Da’Vine Joy Randolph. In addition, veteran stars like Penélope Cruz, Halle Berry, and Goldie Hawn will be presenting.
The 2025 Academy Awards, hosted by Conan O’Brien, will air live on ABC and Hulu at 7 p.m. ET/4 p.m. PT, with the red carpet presentation beginning at 6:30 p.m. ET/3:30 p.m. PT. Although Ford’s absence will be felt, the event is still expected to showcase an exciting lineup of stars and performances.
Fans of Ford will no doubt be wishing the actor a swift and smooth recovery, as the beloved icon takes the necessary time to rest and heal.
