Baz Luhrmann is bringing Elvis Presley back to the big screen in a way fans have never experienced before. The director’s new project, EPiC: Elvis Presley in Concert, will hit U.S. theaters in 2026, featuring a trove of previously unreleased concert footage, personal recordings, and archival material.

The film centers on newly discovered footage from Presley’s 1970 Las Vegas residency and his 1972 North American tour, along with rare 8mm clips from the Graceland archives. Luhrmann also uncovered recordings of Elvis discussing his life and music—conversations that inspired the creation of EPiC after the 2022 biopic Elvis.

“EPiC is an experience that is not just a documentary and not just a concert film,” Luhrmann said. “From the first day my editor, Jonathan Redmond, and I encountered this rare and never-before-seen footage of Elvis almost 8 years ago, it has been our mission that Elvis should finally fulfill his unrealized dream to tour around the world.”

Most of the footage was originally shot for Presley’s early 1970s concert films, Elvis: That’s the Way It Is (1970) and Elvis on Tour (1972). In an effort to restore the material for the 2022 biopic, Luhrmann and his team discovered 68 boxes of film negatives in a Warner Bros. vault hidden in an underground salt mine in Kansas, along with unseen 8mm clips and a rare video from Presley’s 1957 “gold lamé jacket” concert in Hawaii.

The most compelling discovery, according to Luhrmann, were the unheard recordings of Elvis speaking candidly about his life and music, which ultimately became the heart of EPiC. Over the past two years, Luhrmann and his team meticulously restored the footage and reconstructed sound from multiple unconventional sources to create a seamless concert experience.

EPiC premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival last month and has been acquired by Neon for theatrical release in 2026. The film promises to offer fans an unprecedented look at Elvis Presley—both on stage and behind the scenes—celebrating the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll in a way that brings his unreleased performances and personal reflections vividly back to life.
