Marvel fans can breathe easy: Spider-Man: Brand New Day will still swing into theaters on July 31, 2026, despite a brief production halt this week. Sony Pictures confirmed that filming paused for seven days after star Tom Holland sustained a concussion on set — but the studio insists the delay won’t affect the movie’s schedule.

Holland Recovering “Out of an Abundance of Caution”

A source close to the production told reporters that Holland is recuperating and expected to return to work on September 29. “He’s recuperating out of an abundance of caution,” the insider said, adding that no one else was injured during the incident, which happened on the Pinewood Studios lot in London.

The upcoming film, directed by Destin Daniel Cretton and produced in partnership with Marvel Studios, began shooting in early August. Last month, Sony released a behind-the-scenes video celebrating the first day of production in Glasgow, showing Holland performing an elaborate stunt — leaping in full Spider-Man gear onto a tank barreling through the city.

“It’s funny, putting the suit on, it feels different this time, somehow,” Holland said in the video. “It’s also the first time we ever had fans on set day one, so it’s really exciting to share this with them. We’ve got some familiar faces on set. I’m just going to do my best, hopefully get it right — no pressure.”

A Star-Studded Cast for Spidey’s Next Chapter

Brand New Day marks Holland’s fourth solo Spider-Man outing and reunites key cast members Zendaya and Jacob Batalon. New additions include Sadie Sink, Liza Colón-Zayas, and Tramell Tillman. The film also expands its Marvel connections: Mark Ruffalo will appear as Bruce Banner (the Hulk), Jon Bernthal returns as Frank Castle (the Punisher), and Michael Mando reprises his role as Mac Gargan (Scorpion) from 2017’s Spider-Man: Homecoming.

Behind the scenes, the story comes from longtime Spider-Man writers Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers, with franchise producers Amy Pascal and Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige steering the project.

Fans Eager Despite Temporary Setback

Though the unexpected pause raised brief concerns, fans can rest assured that Sony has no plans to shift the film’s highly anticipated summer 2026 release. With its expanded ensemble and the promise of fresh storytelling under Cretton’s direction, Spider-Man: Brand New Day remains one of the most closely watched superhero projects on the horizon — and Tom Holland is expected to be back in the suit soon.
