Pierce Brosnan, 72, Credits Irish Roots — and Guinness — for His Famous Head of Hair

OPINION: This article may contain commentary which reflects the author's opinion.

Pierce Brosnan has long been admired for his suave looks, but at 72, the former James Bond insists his enviable mane is simply a gift from his heritage—and maybe a pint or two of Guinness.

At the New York premiere of his latest film, The Thursday Murder Club, on Thursday, Aug. 14, Brosnan joked with Page Six about the secret to his still-thick locks. “It’s all in the hair, the old Celtic hair,” said the Irish-born actor, noting that his father also “had good hair.”

Leaning into the humor, Brosnan added that Irish staples like “potatoes, butter” and even “the Guinness” might also play a role. As for his age-defying looks more broadly, he modestly told the outlet: “I’m doing my best!”

A Family Trait

It seems Brosnan has passed his signature trait down to the next generation. His son Dylan, 28, joined him on the red carpet, showing off his own stylish, slightly longer hairstyle. The two posed for photos together, with Dylan—who towered over his father—drawing just as much attention for his striking presence.

Still Bond at Heart

Though Brosnan last played James Bond more than two decades ago, his name still lingers in conversations about the iconic role. Earlier this year, he teased that he might still be able to slip back into 007’s tuxedo “in a pinch.”

Appearing on the Today show in April, Brosnan said, “Let’s see where the wind takes us. Let’s see what happens. They know where to find me. Why not?” He even quipped about the possibility of AI making a return easier: “I mean, there’s great things you can do with AI as well, so there you have it. I’m quite content the way it is.”

When asked about the next Bond, however, Brosnan was clear about one requirement. Speaking with The Telegraph in March, he said it’s a “given” that the next 007 must be British.

A Return to Chris Columbus

In the meantime, Brosnan is enjoying his latest project: The Thursday Murder Club, directed by Chris Columbus and adapted from Richard Osman’s bestselling novel. The ensemble cast features Brosnan alongside Helen Mirren, Ben Kingsley, and Celia Imrie as retirement home residents who moonlight as amateur detectives solving cold cases.

For Brosnan, reuniting with Columbus was an easy decision. The two previously worked together on the beloved 1993 comedy Mrs. Doubtfire. “It’s a film that I hold close to my heart,” Brosnan told People earlier this year. “So when I got the call from Chris, that he was making a movie of The Thursday Murder Club, I was halfway there already. By the time I’d read the book by Richard Osman, I was completely hooked.”

Aging With Charm

With a new role, a touch of nostalgia, and a head of hair he proudly attributes to his Irish genes, Brosnan continues to balance humor, humility, and elegance both on and off the screen.

And if Guinness really is the secret? Fans may just be ready to raise a glass in his honor.

Would you like me to angle this more as a lighthearted lifestyle piece (emphasizing his charm and wit about aging) or as a film-focused feature (highlighting his new project and Bond legacy)?
