Sylvester Stallone Names the Weirdest Movie He Ever Made—and You’ve Probably Never Seen It

OPINION: This article may contain commentary which reflects the author's opinion.

Sylvester Stallone, the legendary action star known for Rocky and Rambo, has been refreshingly candid about one of the strangest—and worst—movies in his filmography. In a 2006 interview, Stallone didn’t hold back when naming Stop! Or My Mom Will Shoot (1992) as possibly “one of the worst films in the entire solar system, including alien productions we’ve never seen.” With his trademark humor, he even joked that watching it might “lower the birth rate to zero” in some countries.

The film, a buddy comedy pairing Stallone as a tough cop with Estelle Getty as his overbearing mother, was universally panned and swept the Golden Raspberry Awards, snagging three Razzies including Worst Actor for Stallone himself. The film’s clunky premise and awkward tone left audiences baffled and critics scornful.

Stallone’s foray into comedy during the early ’90s was part of a broader effort to diversify his acting portfolio. Other missteps included Oscar (1991), which holds a dismal 11% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and Rhinestone (1984), criticized for its implausible story and Stallone’s unlikely role as a country singer.

Perhaps even more obscure is Stallone’s debut in The Party at Kitty and Stud’s (1970), a softcore pornographic film made when he was reportedly homeless and desperate for work. Later re-released as Italian Stallion to cash in on his fame, Stallone has since described the film as “horrendous”—a testament to his willingness to be honest about the less glamorous chapters of his career.

From early struggles and bizarre roles to blockbuster success, Stallone’s career journey is a fascinating mix of highs and lows. And while he’s made plenty of unforgettable movies, Stop! Or My Mom Will Shoot remains his self-proclaimed “weirdest” and worst—a cult curiosity many fans have yet to experience firsthand.
