Hollywood star Jason Momoa, known for his iconic roles in Game of Thrones and Aquaman, has recently revealed his plans to dive into the world of whisky—by opening a pub in Edinburgh. In a candid chat with the Sunday Mail, the actor shared his enthusiasm for Scotland’s whisky culture, suggesting that he may be working on a single malt scotch whisky of his own.

Momoa, who is no stranger to bold ventures, expressed his love for Scotland, particularly the charm of Edinburgh. “I kind of feel like I need to visit Scotland and sample a few of the finest single malts,” he said, adding with a wink, “Purely for business interests only, of course.” The Hawaiian-born actor’s fondness for Scotland was clear as he playfully alluded to the idea of creating a whisky to rival the country’s famed spirits. With his long-time passion for the pub scene, which he has enjoyed in London, Momoa stated that Scotland’s pubs were an exciting next stop. “I hear in Scotland the pubs are just as good,” he remarked.

While the idea of a whisky venture might seem at odds with his on-screen personas—such as his roles in Dune or Minecraftit seems to fit perfectly with the rugged, mischievous spirit of his portrayal of Aquaman. In one memorable scene, the actor’s Aquaman downed an entire bottle of whisky in slow motion, a moment that perfectly captured his grizzled, tattooed superhero version. The bottle, a fictional highland malt scotch labeled “McMurdie Castle,” was sold at auction for a staggering $585, adding a touch of real-world intrigue to his character’s onscreen indulgence.

Momoa’s playful comments about whisky have sparked speculation about his potential new business venture, especially considering the countdown timer currently displayed on the website for his vodka brand, Meili. The timer, set to expire on July 3, 2025, carries the bold tagline, “We’re Coming For You. Join The Revolution.” This could be a hint that something big—perhaps even a whisky line—could be in the works.

For those unfamiliar with his vodka venture, Momoa launched Meili in 2023 in partnership with fashion designer Blake Halvorson. Meili vodka is made using water sourced from a 300-million-year-old aquifer and packaged in bottles crafted from 100% recycled materials. The spirit is sold at an accessible price point of $25 per bottle, with a flavor profile described as sweet and grassy, somewhere between a refined white rum and blanco tequila.

In addition to Meili, keen-eyed fans may remember Momoa’s previous collaboration with Guinness to create “The Mano,” a limited-edition sour beer. This unique collaboration, born out of his time filming Game of Thrones in Belfast, was inspired by Momoa’s Hawaiian heritage and tattoos. If re-released in 2025, the beer could attract significant attention, given Guinness’ surge in popularity.

Though the specifics of Momoa’s whisky plans remain unclear, it’s evident that the actor is no stranger to exploring new ventures in the spirits industry. Whether it’s a pub in Edinburgh or a new line of single malts, it’s safe to say that Jason Momoa’s entrepreneurial spirit is set to make waves far beyond the silver screen.
