Jared Hess’ A Minecraft Movie is proving to be more than just another video game adaptation—it’s becoming a global box office titan. After just 26 days in theaters, the film has officially crossed the $800 million mark worldwide, fueled by impressive international debuts and strong domestic momentum. With viral buzz, a standout comedic pairing, and widespread appeal, the film is now eyeing the elusive $1 billion milestone.

Released on April 4, the PG-rated adventure-comedy has charmed audiences with the unlikely yet electric duo of Jason Momoa and Jack Black. Their hilarious on-screen chemistry has taken social media by storm, with several scenes going viral and contributing to the film’s growing popularity—especially among younger fans and gaming communities.

According to industry analyst Luiz Fernando, the film raked in $36.8 million overseas in its fourth weekend, driven by debut hauls of $4.3 million in Japan and $2.4 million in Korea. So far, the international gross across 76 markets stands at a robust $436.6 million. While the film has slipped from the top three in North America, it continues to deliver strong numbers, pulling in $22.7 million in its fourth weekend stateside, bringing its domestic total to $380 million.

That puts the movie on track for a U.S. total between $440 million and $470 million—a remarkable feat that would make it one of the biggest domestic runs ever for a video game movie. Globally, A Minecraft Movie now stands at $816.6 million and is poised to potentially cross the $1 billion threshold in the coming weeks.

With this trajectory, it’s even possible that A Minecraft Movie could challenge the reigning champion of video game adaptations, The Super Mario Bros. Movie, which earned $1.36 billion worldwide. Whether or not it takes the top spot, A Minecraft Movie has already carved out its own blocky legacy in cinematic history.
