However, behind Kane’s collection of Moana stuffed animals and Halloween costumes lay a life of unimaginable challenges. Kane was born with heterotaxy syndrome, a rare condition that affects the placement of internal organs, such as the heart, which in Kane’s case was positioned incorrectly. This condition, which affects only 1 in 10,000 births worldwide, required him to undergo multiple hospital visits, live with a pacemaker, and face a daily struggle just to survive.

His mother, Christine, spoke to NBC affiliate KARE of Minneapolis about Kane’s condition: “Kane was born with a bad heart, and we kind of just dealt with that his whole life.” Despite the overwhelming odds, Kane’s spirit remained unbroken, and he continued to live with a bravery beyond his years.

A Heartwarming Surprise

In early March 2025, after a lifetime of medical treatment, Kane’s condition worsened. He suffered a cardiac event, and doctors worked tirelessly to save him, performing CPR for 91 minutes. Despite their efforts, Kane never fully recovered. As doctors and the Bolan family prepared for a risky final procedure on March 11, a moment of joy and hope arrived—an unexpected video call from none other than Maui himself, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson.

In a video message, Johnson greeted Kane with a warm, “Hey, Kane! This is The Rock, aka Maui from Moana.” With his twin brother Dennis by his side, Johnson and Dennis sang the iconic song “You’re Welcome” from the film, bringing a smile to Kane’s face as he lay in his hospital bed. Although Kane could not speak at the time, his mother described how his eyes lit up, feeling the love and connection through Johnson’s words and music.

Dwayne Johnson, deeply moved by their encounter, posted on Instagram on April 6, 2025: “Despite not being able to speak when we met, I FELT this little boy’s SMILE, and felt this little boy’s MANA. His mana was beautiful. His mana was strong.”

Christine, overwhelmed by the outpouring of love and support, expressed gratitude for the unexpected joy that the call from The Rock had brought to Kane in his final days. “I couldn’t have imagined the response it would get,” she said, reflecting on how the moment had touched so many people around the world.
