In the ever-evolving Marvel Cinematic Universe, death is rarely permanent, and that might just be the case for Wanda Maximoff, a character whose journey has captivated audiences for years. While Wanda’s apparent death at the end of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness in 2022 left many fans heartbroken, Elizabeth Olsen, who portrays the iconic character, has shared a wild and imaginative pitch for how she envisions Wanda’s return to the MCU.

A Unique Vision for Wanda’s Future

Olsen, known for her versatile portrayal of the powerful and emotionally complex Wanda Maximoff, recently opened up about her creative ideas for the character’s next chapter. In an interview with The Playlist, Olsen offered an intriguing vision for Wanda’s future that takes her to a very different place—both physically and emotionally—50 years down the line.

Olsen described her “dream version” of Wanda as a much older character with “white hair—such a big, massive white wig—and a gnarly face of wrinkles doing like a Tracy Ullman thing.” She envisioned Wanda as a “creature” that is discovered after years of being in hiding, bringing an entirely new layer of mystery and transformation to the character.

“It’s something I have quite literally pitched,” Olsen explained. “Because it would be so fun to get to do that to me. I mean, I guess in one of the comics, she ages quite quickly, and I think those are the images that are implanted in my brain next because I haven’t done it.”

This playful, yet intriguing concept of an aged and wiser Wanda Maximoff brings a new energy to the possibility of her return. It presents a stark contrast to the powerful, often emotionally driven character fans have come to know. Instead, this version of Wanda would likely be a far more enigmatic and perhaps tragic figure, one who has experienced even more loss and time than before.

Wanda’s Emotional Journey in the MCU

Wanda’s journey throughout the MCU has been one of the most complex and evolving arcs. Initially introduced in 2015’s Avengers: Age of Ultron as a villain aiding James Spader’s Ultron, Wanda gradually becomes a hero, working alongside Earth’s mightiest heroes in the fight against Thanos. Her relationship with Vision (played by Paul Bettany) becomes one of the central emotional stakes in her narrative, culminating in a heartbreaking moment in Avengers: Infinity War where Wanda is forced to destroy the Mind Stone to prevent it from falling into Thanos’ hands—only for him to tear the stone from Vision’s head moments later, killing him.

The devastation of losing Vision leaves Wanda emotionally shattered, and in WandaVision, she uses her reality-warping powers to create a fantasy world where Vision is alive, and they even have two children. However, the fantasy is shattered, and Wanda’s grief and trauma only deepen. This emotional turmoil carries over into Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, where she becomes consumed by the desire to find an alternate universe where her children are alive, going to extreme lengths and even murdering to achieve this goal.

Her character’s transformation from hero to villain and back again has made her one of the most multi-dimensional and compelling characters in the MCU. And now, with Olsen’s pitch for an aged version of Wanda, fans might see another major evolution in the character’s journey.

A Possible Future for Wanda in the MCU

As for whether or not this older version of Wanda Maximoff will ever grace the MCU, only time will tell. However, given the vast multiverse and the unpredictable nature of the MCU’s storylines, it’s certainly a possibility. With upcoming films like Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars on the horizon, it wouldn’t be surprising to see Wanda’s character return in a different form—perhaps even embodying the older, more mysterious version Olsen has envisioned.

Fans will undoubtedly be eagerly awaiting any official word on Wanda’s return, especially considering the lasting impact of her character. Whether she returns as an older version or a more heroic one, Olsen’s passion for the character and her willingness to explore new facets of Wanda’s evolution suggest that, if and when Wanda does come back, it will be in a way that surprises and excites audiences once again.

Until then, fans can continue to reflect on Wanda’s complex and emotional journey, eagerly hoping for a return that takes the character to even greater heights.
