The highly anticipated Peaky Blinders movie has officially wrapped up filming, and creator Steven Knight couldn’t be more excited about what fans can expect. Speaking on The Playlist’s Bingeworthy Podcast, Knight revealed that production was completed on December 13, and the result, according to him, is “mind-blowingly good.”

“It’s been an incredible journey,” Knight said. “We’ve got Barry Keoghan, Tim Roth, Rebecca Ferguson, and of course, Cillian Murphy and Stephen Graham. It’s all coming together, and I think fans will be thrilled.”

The film, which picks up after the success of the hit BBC drama, promises to deliver a fitting conclusion to the gripping saga of the Shelby family and their criminal empire. Set against the backdrop of post-WWI Birmingham, the Peaky Blinders series became a worldwide phenomenon, running for six seasons from 2013 to 2022. It catapulted Murphy’s portrayal of the enigmatic Tommy Shelby into global stardom and solidified the show’s place in pop culture history.

The series finale left fans with more questions than answers, but they can now breathe a sigh of relief knowing that the movie will provide much-needed closure. “We’re going to end the series as it is, but the movie is going to take it all to another level,” Knight had previously stated in 2021, confirming the film would begin production shortly after the series concluded.

As of now, Knight is reflecting on the nearly three-year wait since that announcement. His desire to give fans a communal viewing experience is clear. “I really want the Peaky fans, who have been a big part of this, to watch it together in one building. The communication has been virtual for so long, but I want this to be in cinemas where people can sit there together and witness this thing happen,” Knight expressed.

The excitement surrounding the project continues to grow, especially after Netflix teased the first glimpse of the movie last November. The still featured a brooding Barry Keoghan, driving a truck toward a mysterious brick building. Keoghan’s character is a fresh face to the Peaky world, unlike Murphy and Graham, who reprise their iconic roles. Keoghan, along with Tim Roth and Rebecca Ferguson, marks a new chapter in the film, while returning stars like Sophie Rundle, Packy Lee, and Ned Dennehey also bring their beloved characters back to the screen.

Knight, who describes the upcoming film as “a fitting end to the first chapter,” hasn’t ruled out the possibility of further stories in the Peaky Blinders universe. “As long as there’s an appetite for it and I’ve got stories to tell, then why not?” he teased.

Fans of the series will be eagerly awaiting what promises to be an explosive continuation of one of television’s most iconic crime sagas, and it seems Knight is ready to keep that momentum going as long as the story lives on.
