Morgan Wallen Asked Police to Let Him Fix His Hair Before 2024 Mugshot: What Body Cam Footage Reveals About the Country Star’s Arrest

In a newly released body cam video from his 2024 arrest, country superstar Morgan Wallen showed an unexpectedly lighthearted side—one focused less on legal trouble and more on presentation. The 32-year-old “Last Night” singer, while being processed by Nashville police, asked officers if he could fix his hair before taking his mugshot, joking that he wanted it to look “decent this time.”
The footage, taken during Wallen’s April 2024 arrest in Nashville, captures the artist remaining calm and polite with officers throughout the booking process—an interaction that also offered rare insight into how the country music megastar handled a turbulent night with humor, humility, and self-awareness.
A Calm Demeanor — and a Comb Request
In the video, an officer references Wallen’s prior 2020 arrest, even pulling up his old mugshot. Wallen chuckled as he asked, “Do I gotta take another picture?” When told that an updated photo would be required, he quickly followed up:
“Can you make sure I got my hair looking decent?”
The officer laughed and replied, “Yeah, I’ll try to. You’ll have to ask the DCSO guys.”
Wallen then asked, half-jokingly, “You got a comb?” prompting another laugh from officers. One even obliged, handing him a comb and re-cuffing him with his hands in front so he could tidy his hair before his new mugshot.
As he was escorted back to the car after using the restroom, Wallen quipped, “How do I look, man?” The officer responded, “Good.” Wallen smiled and added, “I’m gonna smile this time, too. Should I smile? I’m a lot happier than I was then. I used to be mad. I’m not no more. You ever been mad?”
When the officer replied that he had, Wallen nodded knowingly: “At the world? Me too… but I’m not anymore. I went to church for the fourth time in a row today.”
From Reckless Endangerment to Redemption
The April 2024 incident led to Wallen being charged with felony reckless endangerment, a charge that was later reduced to two misdemeanor counts. In December 2024, he pleaded guilty and was sentenced to seven days in a DUI education program along with two years of supervised probation.
Wallen’s attorney, Worrick Robinson IV, released a statement following the court’s decision, saying the singer had “cooperated fully with authorities throughout these last eight months” and “remains committed to making a positive impact through his music and foundation.”
Wallen himself addressed the incident publicly in an April 2024 statement shared to X (formerly Twitter):
“I didn’t feel right publicly checking in until I made amends with some folks. I’ve touched base with Nashville law enforcement, my family, and the good people at Chief’s. I’m not proud of my behavior, and I accept responsibility.”
A Far Cry from the 2020 Mugshot Moment
The singer’s focus on his hair and demeanor in 2024 seemed like a deliberate contrast to his 2020 Nashville arrest, when he was charged with public intoxication and disorderly conduct after being escorted out of Kid Rock’s bar. Those charges were eventually dropped, but the viral mugshot that followed—featuring Wallen with tousled hair and a grin—became a social media talking point.
This time, the artist appeared intent on handling the situation differently—reflecting a more mature and self-aware version of himself.
From Controversy to Clarity
For Wallen, 2024 was another chapter in a career marked by both controversy and massive success. Despite setbacks, he continued to dominate the charts with One Thing at a Time, which spent 16 weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard 200.
The newly released footage serves as a reminder that even in difficult moments, Wallen seems to have found a sense of humor—and perhaps, a sense of peace.
“I’m gonna smile this time,” he told police with a laugh. And maybe, after years of public turbulence, that statement carried more meaning than it first seemed.
